The RSA Great Recovery project's LCA scored a cartridge system at roughly seven times the environmental impact of a double-edge safety razor (115 vs 16 mPt) — the cartridge itself, a bonded multi-material part, is the culprit. The stakes are small in absolute terms, but the direction is unambiguous.

What marketing won't tell you

End of life
Solid metal throughout — the rare product that is genuinely recyclable. Used blades go in a sealed tin (a 'blade bank') to the metal stream. Cartridges, by contrast, are fused plastic-rubber-steel sandwiches that no kerbside system takes.
