The rare case where the government did the whole LCA twice. The 2008 Environment Agency study famously found reusables could be *worse* if tumble-dried and washed at 90°C; the 2023 DEFRA update — modern machines, a cleaner grid — finds reusables ~25% better on climate (344 vs 457 kg CO2e over 2.5 years), with the gap widening as the grid decarbonizes. Washing behavior is still the whole ballgame.

Cleanliness: Worth attention

A 60°C wash with adequate detergent handles pathogen load; sanitizer cycles exist for illness periods. This is solved textile hygiene, not a leap of faith — but it is real laundry, ~3 extra loads a week.

For the lifetime claim to hold

Dry-pail, wash every 2–3 days in full loads at 40–60°C, line-dry. Elastics and PUL last ~2.5 years of this; the routine is the product.
