Cleanliness: Worth attention
A 60°C wash with adequate detergent handles pathogen load; sanitizer cycles exist for illness periods. This is solved textile hygiene, not a leap of faith — but it is real laundry, ~3 extra loads a week.
For the lifetime claim to hold
Dry-pail, wash every 2–3 days in full loads at 40–60°C, line-dry. Elastics and PUL last ~2.5 years of this; the routine is the product.

Cotton and bamboo inserts downcycle to rags; PUL waterproof shells don't recycle. The meaningful end-of-life is resale or a second child — a strong secondhand market exists, unlike almost everything else on this site.
